Mission
As a high school institution committed to a distinctly Reformed Christian perspective, Western Christian is a Christ-centered learning community upholding biblical Truth, fostering academic growth, and equipping all learners to love God and serve others.
A Christ-Centered Learning Community
- We often say Western Christian is more than a school; we are a learning community. Christ-centered learning communities emphasize collaborative partnerships between churches, families, students, alumni, faculty, staff, businesses, donors, and attempt to structure the school’s curriculum to address unique needs locally, nationally, and globally.
- Parents often say the depth and authenticity of the Christian community they discovered at Western Christian were unexpected blessings. Students are known, valued, cared for, and encouraged to love one another as Christ loves the church. Lifelong friendships are formed here and students develop a unique sense of belonging. Western Christian believes strongly in discipleship through the effective partnerships between parents, the school, the local church, and the surrounding community. Therefore, Western Christian offers abundant and meaningful ways for stakeholders to actively engage in all that is happening in our Christ-centered learning community.
Upholding Biblical Truth
- A biblical worldview is based on God’s unchanging Word. Since God is the Creator of everything in heaven and earth, He is the standard for truth. 2 Timothy 3:16 states “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God.” Inspiration means that God “breathed it out.” The Holy Spirit guided and directed humans to write down and preserve His words through Scripture. Western Christian is committed to helping every student seek, know, live, proclaim, and uphold this biblical Truth.
- Absolute Truth exists and is revealed through creation, Scripture, and the person of Christ. As the secular society around us embraces relativism, Western Christian holds firmly to the belief that God has established absolutes that are true for all people, in all places, and for all time. Truth exists independently of our knowledge and acceptance of it; therefore, our role is to uncover and enjoy it.
We believe that we exist as image-bearers of God to use God’s revelation (Bible, Creation, Inspiration) for His glory; that is why we do things graciously, deeply, and faithfully. We believe faith influences all aspects of life and therefore should be an integral part of every aspect of education.
Fostering Academic Growth & Equipping All Learners
- We take our commitment to a biblical reformed worldview education very seriously. God has called us to do everything as if working for the Lord, and we know this calling holds us to a high standard. We diligently strive for excellence in our staff, faculty, curriculum, programming, and outreach. In every endeavor, we exist to bring honor and glory to God. In fact, everything we do is an act of worshipping Him!
- Western Christian’s academic coursework is rigorous and our graduates are thoroughly prepared for their vocation or post-secondary education, and beyond. The curriculum includes a sharp focus on developing passionate apprentices of Christ, servant-hearted leaders, effective communicators and collaborators, and engaged and critical thinkers. We call these four aspiration statements a “Portrait of a Western Christian Graduate”. Overall, Western Christian provides students with a robust and diverse set of academic opportunities including well-rounded offerings in honors, Post Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO), Career and Technical Education (CTE), co-curricular opportunities, internships, and more. Western Christian equips students with life skills and tools to grow in their relationship with Christ beyond high school in both secular and Christian environments. Ultimately, our goal is for our graduates to embrace curiosity and an endless pursuit of learning…to serve the King.
To Love God & Serve Others
- Loving God and serving others is at the very heart of all we do both inside and outside of the classroom and is the basis for all learning at Western Christian. We are training disciples of Jesus Christ. The term “disciple” is derived from the Koine Greek word mathetes, which means a pupil or an apprentice.
- As we facilitate the development of passionate apprentices of Christ and servant-hearted leaders, the aim for every graduate is to learn to serve all people with humility and empathy and to positively influence others with creative ideas, actionable suggestions, and hard work. Our graduates are starting the journey of actively pursuing greater wholeness in the world by working for justice and mercy. As a discipleship school, our teachers and staff are intentional in teaching, mentoring, praying for, encouraging, challenging, and supporting every student to train them up into mature disciples of Jesus Christ.
